The Optimal Stopping Problem and Beta-Binomial Distribution in Workforce Management
July 2026
Independent Research Paper
This paper applies the Optimal Stopping Problem to company hiring decisions, deriving the point at which a decision-maker should stop interviewing and select a candidate. It then uses Bayesian updating and the Beta-Binomial distribution to model how confidence in an employee’s true performance evolves as they’re continuously evaluated on the job.
